An equinox occurs twice a year, when the tilt of the Earth's axis is inclined neither away from nor towards the Sun, the centre of the Sun being in the same plane as the Earth's equator. The term equinox can also be used in a broader sense, meaning the date when such a passage happens. The name "equinox" is derived from the Latin aequus (equal) and nox (night), because around the equinox, the night and day are approximately equally long. At an equinox, the Sun is at one of two opposite points on the celestial sphere where the celestial equator and ecliptic intersect. These points of intersection are called equinoctial points: the vernal point and the autumnal point.
Why, haven't I been productive lately it's not always when I manage to finish two pieces of art in one week... Originally I wanted to post this piece when the actual equinox occured but all the work and my studies kept me busy for past few weeks so that I didn't have time to finish it. Thus, you're going to get my Vernal Equinox now right before the Easter almost two weeks late but better than never. In my vision she is a celestial character, the keeper of the balance in her scales she carries sun and moon, representing the equal length of the night and day. Since she is the represent of Vernal Equinox I also wanted to include the aspect of spring. On the night side that soon will be waning are the snow and ice of the past winter, while on the day side there is a promise of spring and upcoming summer. At this point the seasons, likewise the day and night, are equal - it's the turning point of the year. This was quite fun to do - the hair and the dress included a lot of painting - now that I have couple days off from university, I could spend some quality time with my Wacoom tablet. I really hope this bringer of the spring would send some warm days up here to the North soon. I totally miss seeing leaves on the trees and feeling the mild breeze of the wind. There are still plenty of snow, slush and gloomy gray mornings, so every single sunny day feels absolutely divine...
Happy Easter everyone! And I guess this is the time and place to thank you for all the llamas!
This is an absolutely stunning work of art. Well done!
