Phoenix

"A phoenix is a mythical bird with a colorful plumage and a tail of gold and scarlet . It has a 500 to 1,000 year life-cycle, near the end of which it builds itself a nest of twigs that then ignites; both nest and bird burn fiercely and are reduced to ashes, from which a new, young phoenix or phoenix egg arises, reborn anew to live again. The new phoenix is destined to live as long as its old self. It is said that the bird's tears contain healing abilities of pureness, and their cry is that of a beautiful song. Phoenix represents resurrection, immortality, and life-after-death, and it is closely associated with the rising sun."

Another piece for my "Mythical Creatures" series - here is my version of phoenix, the firebird. The Greeks and the Romans pictured this mythical bird like a peacock or an eagle, and in my piece I wanted to combine all of these features. I have always imagined the phoenix as a creature that is strong and graceful at the same time - majestetic like an eagle and yet delicate like a crane. A gaudy peacock for one represents beautifully the dazzling appearance of the phoenix.
I had good time painting and combining the tail, the flames and all the fancy little details. I must say really like the glowing tones of yellow and red - my biggest inspiration for the color choices and tints was definitely the amazing background stock, I really loved its vibrant tones and I think they fit my theme pretty well. So here is my immortal phoenix in all his finery. I truly hope you like it.
